ROSCOES HISTORY
Roscoe’s Professional Academy started in 1998. Ross Geldenhuys (a professionally qualified coach) set up the academy at Berea Tennis Club in Durban. During the past 10 years the Academy has grown substantially. Greg Moran also a professionally qualified tennis coach joined the academy 6 years ago and along with Ross has a very full programme coaching 6 days a week. Ross’s wife, Debbie also a qualified coach (Intermediate Tennis Instructor) assists with the coaching a few times a week. Dorothy Zerbt, a professioanlly qualififed coach joined the team in 2007. Stef Scribano our student wo has been running the very successful Saturday Morning Junior Club since 2006 has now passed his Beginner Coaaches Exam and assists Ross and Greg from time to time.

In January 2006 a very exciting new venture pursued. Roscoe’s Pro Tennis Academy became the resident coaching academy at the prestigious Durban Country Club. DCC is set in a tropical garden surrounded by trees and across the road from the beaches. There are 8 tennis courts, 6 of which are floodlit of which 6 have been upgraded to international standards. Located at the courts is the Roscoe’s Pro Shop which caters for all tennis and squash requirements, including racquet stringing using a top end electronic stringing machine, clothing, and technical shoes, racquets etc.

Ross Geldenhuys represented Zimbabwe and he and Greg (a left hander) play in the premier division tennis leagues. Ross and Greg can offer playing sessions to top tournament players. Dorothy too played at Provential Level in Gauteng as a junior. The senior Super Men's eague team won the 2007 league for the first time in the Club's history.

Tennis coacching for all ages is offered; mini tennis (4yrs – 6yrs) to adults, from beginners to advanced tournament players. Ladies squad and social tennis is offered in the mornings. During the school holidays many tournaments and clinics are offered for the pupils.

The Academy takes tournament players on National Tours during the year, where both Ross and Debbie or Greg travel with the players. The main tour is the December Cape Super 7 tour where up to 16 players take part.

The Academy coaches Clifton Preparatory and Clifton College who now have a tennis academy which is run by the Academy. Durban Countr Club is the home for Clifton Schools tennis.

All the coaches are sponsored by WILSON (Ross & Dorothy) and HEAD (Greg).

All coaching is fun, high energy levels to keep the young ones focused and to ensure a love of the game is instilled at a young age. Technique is a vital part of the coaching sessions to provide a sound base for life.
